Alkali free glass balls belong to borosilicate glass and have good electrical insulation and mechanical properties. It is the main raw material for producing ultrafine glass fiber yarn using ball method. The diameter of ultrafine glass fiber yarn produced by the ball method is generally less than 9 microns. Glass fibers produced by this ball method have better strength and flexibility than those produced by direct tank drawing. This is not only because it has a finer fiber diameter, but also because the glass ball is heated twice to its melting point, which gives the glass liquid more residence time, resulting in fewer small bubbles inside the fibers.
